PRIVACY POLICY.
Effective August 22, 2026 · Last updated September 6, 2026.
Information we collect
We collect limited information needed to operate the website, understand readership, and maintain security. This may include pages viewed, links or buttons clicked, visit dates, general device and browser type, approximate city or region, a pseudonymous visitor identifier stored in a browser cookie, and the referring website when available. To limit automated form abuse, the server also creates a one-way pseudonymous key from connection information. The underlying network address is not stored in the rate-limit record, and inactive rate-limit records become eligible for periodic deletion after seven days.
How we use information
This information helps us count website visits, understand which stories are being read, keep the website working, and improve the reader experience. Visitor analytics are intended for website administration and are not displayed publicly.
Reader subscriptions, support, tips, job listings, and event promotions
If you join the reader list, we store your email address privately and share it with our email delivery provider, Brevo, to manage subscriptions and send welcome messages or news updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in an email. Reader-support payments are completed through PayPal; this website does not receive or store your complete card or bank-account number. If you submit a story tip, correction, advertising inquiry, job-listing request, event-promotion request, or question, we store your message, selected topic, submission time, and the contact details you provide. Job requests include the employer, position, pay, location, application route, and other information entered in the form. Event-promotion requests include organizer, event, date, time, venue, official link, requested option, and other submitted details. Submission records are available only to the website owner; approved public details may later be published, while the requester’s private contact details are not published unless they are intentionally supplied as the public contact.
The 100K Newsroom
If you submit a reader assignment, we store the assignment, optional supporting details, optional name and email, submission time, and your public-credit choice for private editorial review. Raw submissions, contact details, source material, and submitted links are never posted automatically. An approved assignment may be edited, combined with similar submissions, stripped of identifying or sensitive details, and then placed on the public board. Voting uses a one-way pseudonymous key derived from connection information to help enforce one active vote per connection and protect ballot integrity; the underlying network address is not stored in the vote record. The 100K Newsroom page does not embed a TikTok player, load TikTok videos, or send page visitors to TikTok.
Creator-to-Newsroom study
If you participate in the Creator-to-Newsroom Gap study, we store your questionnaire responses and submission time. Your name, public handle, and contact email are optional unless you give permission for a direct quotation. Contact information is kept private and used only to verify or clarify a response. Public reporting emphasizes aggregated findings; direct quotations are used only under the permission selected by the participant. We do not sell study responses or represent participation as influencing any platform verification decision.
Advertising and cookies
When advertising is active, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar technologies based on visits to this website or other websites. Google advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this website and other websites. Advertising providers may also process local-storage data, device information, IP addresses, and visit information to deliver, limit, measure, secure, and prevent abuse involving advertisements. Depending on location, settings, choices, and applicable law, ads may be personalized or non-personalized; non-personalized ads may still use cookies for purposes such as frequency capping, aggregated reporting, security, and fraud prevention.
Readers can review Google’s information about data on partner websites, manage Google advertising choices through My Ad Center, review Google advertising technology providers, and use the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool for participating companies.
Service providers and storage
The website is hosted through ChatGPT Sites on Cloudflare infrastructure. Cloudflare Workers process requests, and Cloudflare D1 stores limited website analytics and form records for the owner. Brevo processes reader-list email addresses and delivers subscription messages. When enabled, Google provides website advertising. PayPal, source publications, and other outside links operate under their own privacy policies and may receive technical information when you visit them.
Sharing and retention
We do not sell visitor or research-participant information. Reader-list addresses are retained until unsubscribed or deleted. Tips, corrections, business inquiries, study responses, and website analytics may be kept while reasonably useful for verification, accountability, service improvement, security, lawful requests, or the documented project. Records are reviewed periodically and should be deleted or de-identified when they no longer serve those purposes, subject to technical, legal, safety, and journalism needs.
Your choices and privacy requests
You can manage or clear browser cookies through your device settings and unsubscribe through the link in any reader-list email. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of information you submitted, email contact@whatsthescoopwithbroach.com with the subject “Privacy request.” Identity may need to be verified. A request may be limited when retention is reasonably necessary for journalism, source protection, security, legal compliance, or an accurate corrections and complaints record.
Policy updates
We may revise this privacy policy by publishing an updated version on this page.
