Our mission
What’s the Scoop With Broach is an independently owned digital news publication based in Bakersfield, California. Our goal is to make consequential local and national news understandable, transparent, and accessible while bringing a clearly identified independent perspective to the public conversation.
Accuracy and sourcing
News reports are based on attributable information from public agencies, official records, direct statements, established news organizations, and other sources readers can evaluate. Articles link to supporting sources whenever practical. Developing stories are updated as material facts are confirmed.
News, analysis, and opinion
News coverage, fact checks, analysis, and opinion are labeled so readers can understand the type of work they are reading. Opinion reflects the author’s viewpoint. Factual claims within opinion articles are still expected to be supportable and accurately presented. Fact checks follow the publication’s public fact-check methodology.
Fairness and uncertainty
Allegations are identified as allegations. Arrests and charges are not treated as proof of guilt. When facts remain disputed, incomplete, or unverified, the article should say so rather than fill gaps with speculation.
Right of reply
People and organizations facing a significant allegation should receive a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication when time and circumstances allow. Their response is represented fairly, and a refusal or lack of response is not treated as proof.
Anonymous sources, tips, and outside material
On-record and primary sources are preferred. Anonymity is reserved for information that serves a meaningful public interest when the source has a credible reason not to be named and the account can be evaluated or corroborated. Reader tips, eyewitness material, documents, photographs, audio, and video are checked for provenance and context before being presented as verified. Outside material is credited or labeled.
Conflicts, gifts, and independence
Material personal, political, business, or financial interests connected to coverage should be disclosed. The newsroom does not accept payment, gifts, travel, favors, or private direction in exchange for coverage. Sources, advertisers, donors, and public officials do not approve independent editorial conclusions.
Corrections and updates
Material errors are corrected promptly and transparently. Significant updates display an updated time when available. Readers can request a correction through the corrections page or by emailing contact@whatsthescoopwithbroach.com.
Images and attribution
Photographs and other visual material are credited to their source. Captions and alternative text should describe what the image actually shows without presenting a generic or illustrative image as proof of an event.
Advertising and independence
Paid placements and sponsored features identify the sponsor and use an unambiguous label such as “SPONSORED” or “PAID ADVERTISEMENT.” Sponsors and advertisers do not control independent news coverage, conclusions, corrections, or fact-check verdicts.

What’s the Scoop With Broach is independently owned and published by Billy Roach, writing as B.Roach. The publication is not owned by a political party, campaign, government agency, or corporate news chain. The “Billy Roach (B.Roach)” byline identifies the person with final editorial responsibility, while What’s the Scoop With Broach is identified as publisher; the complete ownership, funding, byline, and governance disclosures are on the newsroom transparency page.
