The garden reopened October 31
The Smithsonian announced that the Hirshhorn Museum's 1.3-acre sculpture garden would reopen Saturday, October 31, after a four-year transformation led by artist and architect Hiroshi Sugimoto.
Reopening confirms public access to the redesigned space; it does not establish attendance, maintenance cost or whether every planned feature is complete.
The redesign is part of the art experience
A sculpture garden is both a collection setting and a piece of public infrastructure. Pathways, sightlines, accessibility and connections to the museum affect which works visitors can encounter and how the National Mall campus functions.
The accompanying photograph predates the project. It is included to show the earlier garden, not to represent the completed 2026 design.
Verify access before visiting
Museum hours, security procedures and temporary closures can change. Visitors should use the Hirshhorn's official page for current access and accessibility information.
This report uses the Smithsonian's October 29 announcement. It does not review the architecture from an in-person visit or claim a visitor response that has not yet been measured.
