Ten days, seven venues
The 13th Americas Film Festival New York runs September 30 through October 9. City College lists feature films, documentaries, 35 short films in competition, new media, filmmaker conversations and educational programs across cultural and academic venues.
Foreign-language films are presented with English subtitles. The venues include Instituto Cervantes, NYU’s Cantor Film Center, City College’s Center for Worker Education, Manhattan Neighborhood Network and the National Museum of the American Indian.
Free is not the same as walk-in
The institutional overview describes screenings and events as free and open to the public. The festival programme, however, labels the September 30 opening screening by invitation only, and individual listings can carry their own RSVP instructions.
That is not a contradiction if ‘free’ describes price while a venue still controls capacity or admission. Visitors should open the listing for the specific film rather than relying on the festival-wide label.
Build a usable itinerary
Start with the event page, note its venue and start time, then confirm whether an RSVP link or invitation is required. Because the programme moves among seven locations, two consecutive selections may require substantial travel.
The practical value of the festival is access to multiple forms and filmmakers without a pass price. The practical limit is capacity: a free listing should not be treated as a seat reservation until the event’s own instructions are satisfied.
