A three-hour window for families
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Kern County College Night returns Monday, September 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dignity Health Arena, 1001 Truxtun Avenue. KCSOS calls it the 27th annual event and organizes it with Kern High School District, CSU Bakersfield, Bakersfield College and Taft College.
The gathering gives students and parents one place to meet representatives from colleges, training programs and military pathways. Families should allow time for parking, entry and popular tables.
Bring questions, not just a bag for brochures
Students can ask about net price, housing, transfer pathways, graduation rates, disability services and internships. The federal College Scorecard helps check outcomes after a conversation.
Financial-aid discussions should lead to the official FAFSA website ending in .gov. No recruiter or helper needs a student's Federal Student Aid password.
A comparison sheet to take with you
Use the same questions at each table so the answers are comparable. Write down the program name, application deadline, required documents and the name of a person you can contact afterward.
Ask for the full annual cost, including tuition, required fees, books, housing and transportation. Then ask which aid is a grant or scholarship, which must be repaid and what conditions apply to renewing an award. An estimated award is not a final financial-aid offer.
For transfer or career programs, ask which credits the next institution accepts, how long completion usually takes and whether a license or separate exam is needed for the job you want. Request the relevant official program page so you can check the answer later.
