Eleven honorees across Kern education
BAKERSFIELD — The Kern County Superintendent of Schools plans to present its inaugural PURPOSE Awards on October 8 at Bell Tower Plaza. KCSOS announced 11 individual and team honorees whose work it connects to three commitments: growth, engagement and support.
The list ranges from Kernville Union achievement leaders and a CTEC health-care educator to family-partnership teams, students, safety organizers, foster-youth support and career programs. Because the categories differ, the event should not be read as one numerical ranking from first to eleventh.
The awards span different kinds of work
KCSOS credits Jennifer Ayers-Freeman with creating hospital job shadowing and growing CTEC's HOSA chapter, Cy Silver with helping launch a multi-district safety coalition and Michelle Blalock with building support for homeless and foster students. Those descriptions explain the selections but remain the organizer's account.
Other honorees include students Mia Salas and Alana Villalpando, KCSOS employee Johnny Melendez, Taft educator Stacey Stansberry, Delano's instructional department and drone-technology instructor Kyle Kuhlmann. The range shows that educational outcomes depend on more than classroom instruction alone.
Recognition should lead to verifiable lessons
Awards can spread useful practice when the public can see the criteria and evidence behind them. Attendance, achievement, participation and student experience should be examined through appropriate records rather than inferred from ceremonial language.
