The old program ends September 7
X is retiring its Creator Revenue Sharing program and replacing it with a system called Original Content Rewards.
The current program stopped accepting new participants on August 7 and will end September 7. Existing participants can begin applying for the replacement program when access starts rolling out September 8.
Applicants must subscribe to an X Premium plan, have at least 500 verified followers and receive 500,000 qualifying Home Timeline impressions from verified users during the previous 90 days.
Original work becomes central to eligibility
X says eligible work can include original reporting, analysis, videos, photographs, illustrations and meaningful commentary. Copied posts, downloaded videos and lightly altered versions of another creator’s work will generally not qualify.
The emphasis on originality could discourage content theft and low-effort reposting. However, limiting eligible impressions primarily to paying users means a creator’s income may depend heavily on the composition of their audience—not simply the quality or overall reach of their work.
Creators currently earning through X should record their existing payment information, review the new rules carefully and prepare to apply again. Approval is not automatic.
