What the exhibition is

The Museum of Modern Art says The Surrealist Book: Tomorrow Lives in Mirrors opens to the public October 4 and runs through January 23, 2027. The show treats books made as works of art as a central Surrealist medium rather than presenting a general survey of every Surrealist painting.

The announced selection includes rare volumes connected to André Breton, Claude Cahun, Salvador Dalí, Paul Éluard, Max Ernst and Toyen. That is a curatorial list, not a promise that every famous work by those artists will be on view.

Preview is a different access category

MoMA's calendar distinguishes member preview days from the October 4 public opening. A preview date should not be read as a general-admission start date. Visitors without the relevant member access should plan around the public schedule.

Museum admission and entry procedures can change by date and time. The practical step is to use MoMA's official visit page for the selected day rather than buying from an unrelated resale listing.

A rights-conscious way to preview the show

The exhibition press page contains object images under limited press-use conditions. Those images are not automatically open-license material for social posts or unrelated reuse. This article therefore uses a separate CC0 photograph of museum visitors rather than reproducing the protected artworks.

For readers, the same distinction matters when sharing images: a museum page can make an image viewable without placing it in the public domain.
