$163,967.80 across 12 properties
Kern County proposes confirming $163,967.80 in nuisance-abatement costs against 12 properties. A line-by-line reconstruction finds $142,676.60 in direct abatement costs, $1,750 in penalties and $19,541.20 in administrative charges.
Three Rosamond entries total $64,769.40—39.5% of all proposed assessments. Two Stetson Avenue parcels associated in the exhibit with the same LLC total $55,916.40, or 34.1% of the countywide amount.
| Component | Amount | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Direct abatement | $142,676.60 | 87.0% |
| Penalties | $1,750.00 | 1.1% |
| Administration | $19,541.20 | 11.9% |
| Total | $163,967.80 | 100% |
Small bills carry the larger administrative share
The five smallest proposed bills total $25,556.60, including $8,900 in administrative charges. Administration therefore accounts for 34.8% of that group.
The five largest bills total $124,794.80, including $7,924.80 in administrative charges—a 6.35% share. The difference does not prove a fee was miscalculated; case-specific work may cost similar amounts even when cleanup bills differ.
These are proposed costs, not final liens
The Board is scheduled to hold a protest hearing October 27. Owners may challenge the amounts, and supervisors may alter or reject them. If confirmed and unpaid after the stated period, the costs can become liens and special assessments.
Public Works says notices were mailed and posted and that owners had appeal opportunities. The online packet does not contain proof of service, invoices or a description of the physical work at each site.
Method and limits
What’s the Scoop With Broach transcribed all 12 Exhibit A rows, summed each cost component and compared the five smallest and five largest totals. The analysis does not identify current property conditions, determine culpability or establish that any amount has been paid.
A more reproducible record would publish the administrative-charge method and supporting invoices while redacting information that is not needed for public oversight.
