A two-day program in downtown Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD — Educators can now register for the Bridges Connecting Language and Literacy Conference, scheduled for November 6 and 7 at Bell Tower Plaza. The Kern County Superintendent of Schools describes it as a free professional-learning event for teachers, administrators, coaches and education advocates.
An optional Friday evening gathering runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The main Saturday program begins with 7:30 a.m. check-in and breakfast, followed by breakout sessions and lunch. KCSOS names bilingual-literacy and dyslexia specialist Elsa Cárdenas-Hagan as the keynote speaker.
Language instruction is the central subject
The conference theme—amplifying language, advancing literacy and transforming learning—places multilingual instruction at the center. California schools serve students with varied home languages and literacy histories, so educators need strategies that separate language development from assumptions about intelligence or effort.
A conference can expose teachers to research and practical methods, but a presentation is not proof that a strategy will work in every classroom. District curriculum, teacher preparation, implementation quality and sustained support all influence what students experience afterward.
Registration is open, but capacity is finite
KCSOS says registration is free and space is limited. Interested educators should use the official registration link, verify whether the social event and main conference require separate choices, and review employer rules before assuming travel time or professional credit will be covered.
