The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District lists a Tune In & Tune Up event for Saturday, October 31, at the Kern County Fairgrounds in Bakersfield. Its current schedule labels the English and Spanish information “Coming Soon.” That means the date and venue are announced, but readers should not treat a third-party signup link or an old flyer as the 2026 registration instructions.
The program is intended for San Joaquin Valley residents whose vehicles have emissions-related problems. Events offer a free emissions test; vehicles found repairable may receive a voucher for work at a participating STAR Test and Repair station.

Eligibility, voucher value and the participating shop matter. A free test does not promise that every vehicle will receive unlimited repairs, and repairs must be completed through participating shops. Do not mix it up with the state CAP program
The district also links to California's separate Consumer Assistance Program. CAP has its own eligibility rules and can provide repair assistance or vehicle-retirement payments for qualified applicants. It is not the same application as Tune In & Tune Up.
Drivers should compare the official terms before authorizing work, save a copy of any voucher, and confirm that a shop is approved for the specific program.
