Four people found dead; child remains critically injured
HOUMA, La. — Four people were found stabbed to death and a young child remained critically wounded after violence Saturday night in the Ashland Drive area of Houma, according to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and two New Orleans-area television stations.
Deputies first responded to the 200 block of Ashland Drive, where authorities said they found a boy younger than 10 with apparent stab wounds. The child had reached a neighbor's home and was flown by Acadian Ambulance Service Air Med to a hospital outside the area in critical condition.
As the investigation expanded, deputies found four deceased victims inside two nearby homes, FOX 8 reported from the sheriff's account. Authorities had not publicly released the victims' identities in the updates reviewed for this report.
Person of interest becomes suspect and is taken into custody
Sheriff Tim Soignet initially identified Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, of Houma as a person of interest whom detectives wanted to locate and question. The agency later said Solet was taken into custody Sunday morning and now considers him the suspect in the fatal stabbings, according to FOX 8 and WDSU.
The sheriff's office reported the custody update in a social-media post at 10:32 a.m. Central time, FOX 8 said. Publicly available updates reviewed for this article did not describe the circumstances of his apprehension or disclose evidence allegedly connecting him to the two homes.
The change in terminology matters: authorities are no longer merely asking to speak with a person of interest. They are identifying Solet as a suspect. That designation remains an allegation by investigators, not a finding of guilt.
Custody is not conviction
No court has convicted Solet in this case. The sheriff's public description does not establish motive, intent or the precise sequence of events, and the reviewed updates do not publicly explain whether or how he knew the victims.
The number of announced counts and the complete charging decision also remain subject to the investigation and prosecutors. A warrant, arrest or booking begins a criminal process; it does not prove the accusation beyond a reasonable doubt.
