Flight Instructor and Two Sons Killed in Fresno Small-Plane Crash

Family identifies the children as Eady's sons and the survivor as her husband

FRESNO, Calif. — Flight instructor Danna Eady and her two young sons died after a small plane carrying their family crashed near Sierra Sky Park in northwest Fresno on Saturday afternoon. Eady's husband, Craig, survived with severe injuries and remained hospitalized Sunday night.

Fire officials said the two children were pronounced dead at the scene. The two adults were initially taken to a hospital in critical condition. Fresno County sheriff's officials said Sunday that 41-year-old Danna Eady died from her injuries.

ABC30 reported that the family confirmed the children were the couple's two young sons and that Craig Eady suffered third-degree burns. A support campaign organized by family friends identifies the boys as Pavel and Remus and says Craig faces extensive medical care. Authorities have not separately released the children's names; the article attributes those identities to the family rather than presenting them as a coroner's identification.

The aircraft came down near Spruce and Blythe avenues

The crash was reported at approximately 1:50 p.m. Saturday near West Spruce and North Blythe avenues, beside the Sierra Sky Park residential airport. Responders found a single-engine fixed-wing aircraft burning atop a bluff above the San Joaquin River, according to accounts attributed to Fresno fire officials.

All four people aboard the aircraft were located. Firefighters extinguished the aircraft fire and surrounding vegetation, and the San Francisco Chronicle reported that crews prevented the brush fire from reaching nearby homes.

The scene involved Fresno fire and police personnel, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, emergency medical responders and federal aviation investigators. A multi-agency response documents the seriousness of the crash; it does not by itself explain what caused it.

ABC30 reports Eady was flying; no cause has been established

ABC30 reported late Sunday that Eady was piloting the aircraft. Colleagues described her as a certified and experienced flight instructor who taught flight science students at Reedley College. That reporting identifies her role in the cockpit; it does not establish what caused the crash or assign fault.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. As of Sunday night, investigators had not released a cause, published the aircraft's registration or owner, or described the flight's origin and intended destination.

No reviewed official statement establishes mechanical failure, pilot action, weather, fuel, airport conditions or another factor as the cause. Those are questions for investigators, not conclusions supported by the preliminary record.

A federal investigation typically examines the aircraft and engine, maintenance history, pilot qualifications, weather, communications, witness accounts and available electronic data. The NTSB's preliminary information will not necessarily establish a final probable cause, which can take considerably longer.

Three deaths and a severely injured survivor require a careful, complete accounting. The next reliable information should come from aircraft records, documented witness evidence and the NTSB—not speculation about the family or what happened inside the aircraft.

Family confirmation establishes the occupants' relationships, and ABC30's reporting identifies Eady as the pilot. Neither fact establishes negligence or probable cause. The condition of Craig Eady also remains a private medical matter beyond the limited details his family chose to share.
