NATIONAL RESEARCH PROJECT · SEPTEMBER 2026
THE SCOOP / WITH BROACH
INDEPENDENT NATIONAL STUDY

THE CREATOR-TO-NEWSROOM GAP.

How do creators turn borrowed reach into an audience they own? What role do independent press coverage and platform verification actually play? This project is collecting the experiences needed to replace assumptions with evidence.

01

DOCUMENT THE GAP

Measure the distance between a large platform audience and a durable website, newsletter, membership, or newsroom.

02

TEST ASSUMPTIONS

Compare audience size, independent coverage, verification status, and the practical consequences creators report.

03

CREATE A PUBLIC RECORD

Publish findings with transparent limitations so reporters, platforms, and independent publishers can evaluate the evidence.

PARTICIPANT QUESTIONNAIRE

ADD YOUR EXPERIENCE.

This questionnaire takes about five minutes. You may participate without providing your name, handle, or email. Contact information is requested only if you permit a follow-up or direct quotation.

0VALID RESPONSES RECEIVEDGOAL: 100

4. Follow-up and consent

No payment is offered or required. One response per participant.

PUBLIC METHODOLOGY · VERSION 1.0

HOW THE STUDY WILL WORK.

The methodology is published before results are analyzed. Any material revision will be dated and explained on this page.

ELIGIBILITY

Who may participate

Adults who operate or contribute to a public creator account, newsletter, podcast, or digital publication. The study is not limited to verified accounts or professional journalists.

SAMPLING

What the sample can show

Participants are recruited through open outreach and creator or journalism networks. This is a convenience sample, not a statistically representative census. The report will not claim that its percentages describe every creator.

ANALYSIS

How results will be reported

Responses will be summarized across meaningful groups. Categories with fewer than five responses will be combined or withheld when necessary to reduce identification risk. Associations will not be described as proof of causation.

QUOTATIONS

When words may be published

No response will be quoted unless the participant expressly selects anonymous or named quotation permission. Contact details will be used only to verify or clarify a response and will not appear in the public dataset.

DATA HANDLING

What remains private

Raw responses and contact information are stored privately. The publication will not sell participant information or publish email addresses. Public reporting will emphasize aggregated findings and verified, permissioned examples.

QUALITY CONTROL

How responses will be screened

Duplicate, automated, internally inconsistent, ineligible, or clearly fabricated submissions may be excluded. The final report will disclose the number of collected and excluded responses and the reasons for exclusion.

PUBLICATION PLAN

When findings will appear

An initial findings report is planned for October 2026 after the field window closes and responses are screened. It will identify the final sample size, exclusions, question wording, analysis choices, and limitations alongside the results.

INDEPENDENCE & DISCLOSURE

TRANSPARENCY BEFORE RESULTS.

This project is organized by Billy Roach, founder and publisher of What’s the Scoop With Broach. Roach operates a large public creator account and has a direct interest in how platform recognition, independent coverage, and audience ownership affect creators and small publishers.

The study is not sponsored, commissioned, reviewed, or endorsed by TikTok or any other platform. Participation does not influence—and is not represented as influencing—any verification decision. The publication will report findings even when they complicate or contradict its original assumptions.

Questions about the study, methodology, collaboration, or data use may be sent to contact@whatsthescoopwithbroach.com.
