BPD Seeks Man Accused of Puncturing Gas Tank at Gosford Road Home Depot

Police ask the public to identify the man

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for help identifying a man accused of puncturing a parked vehicle's fuel tank to steal gasoline in the Home Depot parking lot on Gosford Road.

Police say surveillance video recorded the incident at approximately 10:15 p.m. Friday, August 28. The department's account says the man crawled beneath the vehicle and punctured the tank. BPD has not publicly announced an arrest, a confirmed identity or a criminal charge in connection with the incident.

The conduct described by police remains an allegation. A surveillance image can generate an investigative lead, but it does not by itself establish a person's identity or prove guilt.

Description released by investigators

BPD described the person sought as a slim-built man believed to be in his 30s. Police said he wore a blue baseball cap, a white T-shirt, green or gray shorts and blue athletic shoes.

The accompanying image is the police handout distributed to news outlets for public identification. It has not been altered to imply an arrest or conviction, and the person shown should not be confronted or publicly named without official confirmation.
